Technology and Job Searching Tips

A job search can be a long tiresome process but is very necessary in order to find your dream career. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when looking for employment.

  • Always have your resume updated and in Word and PDF format.

  • There are so many job boards out there. Make sure you keep a list of all your usernames and passwords.

  • Usernames should not be funny or unprofessional. Please keep it simple and professional. For example, using your first name initial and last name, maybe adding a number at the end (i.e., SSmith20).

  • Make sure to read the job description in its entirety. Oftentimes, you will find information that will determine whether or not you can or want to do the job. You may also find instructions on items that need to be completed prior to the interview.

  • Brush up on your computer skills. A lot of information is conducted and transmitted electronically. Knowing how to navigate a computer, having software skills, and being able to upload and download information are also important.

  • Video interviews - Employers are using virtual platforms such as Zoom and Teams to conduct interviews. Familiarize yourself with these tools and consider having the app or desktop version handy.

  • Make sure to keep a list of the jobs for which you applied. This way, you will know exactly which job they're referring to when they call you back.

    • Company name

    • Title and location
